Blood Bank Visit:

A blood bank is a center where blood gathered as a result of blood donationis stored and preserved for later use in blood transfusion.

The term "blood bank" typically refers to a division of a hospital where the storage of blood product occurs and where proper testing is performed (to reduce the risk of transfusion related adverse events). However, it sometimes refers to a collection center, and indeed some hospitals also perform collection.

Whole blood or blood with RBC is transfused to patients with anaemia/iron deficiency. It also helps to improve the oxygen saturation in blood. It can be stored at 1.0 °C-6.0 °C for 35–45 days.

Platelet transfusion is transfused to those who suffer from low platelet count. This can be stored at room temperature for 5–7 days. The donation of Plasma is called (plasmapheresis).Plasma transfusion is indicated to patients with liver failure, severe infections or serious burns.

Fresh frozen plasma can be stored at a very low temperature of -25 °C for up to 12 months. Routine blood storage is 42 days or 6 weeks for stored packed red blood cells.

Organization

The blood bank visit organized by the Mrs. Priyanka Sukdev Pagare, was held at Arpan Blood Bank at M.G.Road , Nasik on 21th November 2019 and 22 nd November 2019. Blood Bank Visit was attended by First Year Students of Matoshri College of Pharmacy, odha, Nashik.

Objective:-

Objective of the visit was to create awareness for Thalassemia. The students were informed about the importance of blood donation, criteria for donating blood as well as different components of blood. The authorities at “Arpan Blood bank” had provided a great support in guiding students about thalassemia, its types, diagnosis and preventive measures that need to be taken so that it should not be inherited to the next generation.

The visit was informative, as a record of 97 students participated in it. It was a 2 hours visit which started at 11:00 A.M. Mrs.Kiran madam and her colleagues gave information about storage , equipments used , RDP , SDP , different blood groups , detail about rare blood group , information about blood , Information about Blood Donation , Procedure about Blood Donation , How Blood Is donated to the person , product packing , separation of blood products , labelling , demotions , colours used of denotations. One form was provided to the students including questions regarding blood, blood banks, blood composition, blood donation, etc. Blood Bank provided the pamphlet to students which contain contact details of various Blood Banks.

Conclusion

With the cooperation of the students and the faculty members the Blood Bank was able to record the feedbacks of the students. The total involvement of deputed Faculties actively engrossed in various responsibilities of Blood bank visit.
